NAME: Yajiro traditional Japanese wood truck and driver pull toy with tops
MAKER: Tsuta family, Yajiro kokeshi & toy craftsmen
SIZE: 5" (12.7cm) high, 9-7/8" (25cm) long
CONDITION: Some chips in the wood on the "engine" section, some small dents here and there.
There are tops missing. The steering wheel is original and maybe the front wheel(?). There would have been two small tops as headlights on the sticks in the front. The back would have had a large umbrella-like top and some smaller tops. The top currently in the back is not original to the set. Didn't realize anything was amiss until another one came in. Still works and still cute.
NOTES: Just as kokeshi craftsmen, this trade is handed down from generation to generation. The Tsuta family consists of the father Sakuzou (d1957 @ 66), son/brother Mamoru (d2009 @ 81) and Fumio, who is currently in production.
