Yajiro Traditional Japanese Pull Toy, Boy on Horse
Sold
NAME: Yajiro traditional Japanese pull toy of a boy on horse
MAKER: Tsuta family, Yajiro kokeshi & toy craftsmen
SIZE: 8" (20cm) tall, 8-1/4" (21.3cm) long
CONDITION: Little older model (maybe 70/80's) and has a few related issues. Some small dents and overall light soiling. The wood is darkening and the visor of the cap has a few small chips in the paint. The original pull string had been cut.
NOTES: Just as kokeshi craftsmen, this trade is handed down from generation to generation. The Tsuta family consists of the father Sakuzou (d1957 @ 66), son/brother Mamoru (d2009 @ 81) and Fumio, who is currently in production.
The boy's arms/body section can spin. The front wheels are larger than the back wheels and are not centered. When the toy is pulled, the horse and rider appear to be "realistically" moving up and down.
