Vintage Creative Kokeshi Ainu Pair

NAME: Vintage creative Japanese kokeshi Ainu pair with stand, MIB

MAKER: Unknown

SIZE: The female is 3-15/16" (10cm) & the male is a tad shorter.

CONDITION: This collection is basically mint in box. There may be some age related issues and will be so noted. Most of the boxes show their age and may be warped, torn or have split corners.

Small dent on the female's right front side. Some of the curls of shaved wood have broken off the male's head.

NOTES: Ainu are the native ethnic group in Hokkaido, the northest region of Japan. They are a distinct ethnic group based on a Shaman religion.

The design is burnt wood style.

The owner of these fabulous vintage kokeshi had purchased them from all over Japan and then stored them in their original gift boxes for all these years (50's/60's). Great find with some unusual dolls!
