Antique Japanese kiri wood and iron stamp box from late Edo to early Meiji period (c1850-1880), measuring 6-1/2" x 4-3/4" x 4.3/4" deep. A stamp in Japan was/is their signature. Probably belonged to a merchant who kept many stamps in it. Please keep in mind that this box is 125 to 155 years old. It is old and used which means dents, scratches, pits. Two edges on the top of the box are worn (but smooth). Inside is stained with black and red ink marks. The iron hardware works perfectly. Was probably refinished or cleaned before it was shipped from Japan.
