NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Yuji Watanabe
SIZE: 11.5" (29cm)
CONDITION: Left side of the head has two small spots and a line of missing wood or finish. Probably bug damage. There is also one more small spot on the left side top behind a bangs. Little wear along the edge of the hair in the back.
NOTES: Earlier work of Mr. Watanabe. The name of the doll is "Flower Maiden". The black outline on the design is painted. In inside decoration is done by the burnt wood technique.
Mr. Watanabe was born in 1951 and is the son of the late, great master Masao Watanabe and the father of Kunihiko Watanabe. Yuji's dolls are very highly sought after, hard to obtain and command top dollar.
