NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Kazumi Fujikawa
SIZE: 10-1/2" (27cm)
CONDITION: Two tiny gouges in the wood on the edge of her haori (jacket) in the front, a few small dents and a few drips of glue under her hair on the back.
NOTES: Design is done by both the burnt wood technique (leaves) and carving. Has a "nose" which is usually an indication of a higher end doll as carving is involved rather than lathing.
Kazumi Fujikawa was born in 1951. He studied under brother Masae Fujikawa. He is a multi award winning artist. Just noted, he also won the highest award, Prime Minister Prize, earlier this year (2019) in the 59th Gunma modern kokeshi doll contest.
