Modern Creative Kokeshi, Western Style, 12" Pair

Two lovely modern Japanese creative kokeshi dressed in Western wear including large brimmed hats.
These ladies are made from a single piece of wood and measure 12-1/2" and 12" tall with a diameter of 3-3/4" not including the hats. They weigh about 2-1/4 pounds each. They look like sisters with slightly different shapes, the main difference being the brim of the hats. One is turned up, the other down.
The brown circles that decorate the dolls appear to be pieces of inlaid wood. Everything else is painted. The darker areas in the wood are simply the beautiful wood grain.
Post manufacture condition is excellent with a couple of minor scratches. The pieces of wood used were not perfect from the start. The taller doll has three cracks extending from the center of the wood on the bottom and two go up the back about 3". They were wood filled. This doll also has a 1/2" hairline crack on her upper back. The other doll has a hairline crack in her hat. It is readily apparent that these were defects in the wood at the time of creation and didn't deter the artist. The swirls painted right on the cracks on the bottom of the one doll and the hat of the other are undisturbed. Had the cracks happened post creation, the paint also would be cracked.
Unusual pair!!! Please keep in mind that this is a large, heavy set. For cost perspective, postage from Japan would have been roughly $60 air or $50 sal.
