Modern Creative Kokeshi, Usaburo, Snow, 10" #73111
Sold
NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Usaburo Okamoto
SIZE: 10" (25.1cm), diameter 4-5/8" (12cm), weight 3 lbs, 11.6 ounces
CONDITION: The green on the kimono in front has faded as greens tend to do with time. Two short deeper dents on the face have darkened. If a dent breaks the finish, it causes exposure of the wood and natural darkening occurs. There are scratches and dings on the left side of her hair, larger dent on the lower back hair and one flower has a tiny chip of paint missing. Few other dents or scratches are insignificant.
NOTES: Usaburo is the family business name. This was made by Usaburo Okamoto. (It is signed on lower left side in gold). He was the master and patriarch until he passed in 2009 at the age of 91.
The name of the doll is Nagoriyuki which means the remnants of snow at the end of Winter or early Spring. Signature board is included. The top of the sleeves are carved at the chin as is her hair (3 dimensional). The hair "strands" are carved all around. Also of interest is that the length of the hair is not symmetrical. It's a nice doll and was probably considered a higher end doll in it's day.
