NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi, original box

MAKER: Shido Shouzan

SIZE: 18-7/8" (48cm)

CONDITION: New old stock. The box had some old water damage and mold on one long flap on the lid so it was removed. The doll must have gotten a bit of the moisture. She is lighter in spots - left side of hair, left side and upper back. Her lower half of face, neck and "shoulder" area have darkened with age and one spot on the obi (belt). Along the edge of her hair in the front, the paint has chipped. I think all these "problems" were due to the moisture.

NOTES: Mr. Shouzan was born in 1932. He started kokeshi crafting in 1959. Multi prize winning artist including the Prime Minister Prize. Known worldwide, he has had multiple exhibits in Japan as well as internationally.

FYI: Had the same doll but with the little carved ovals which sold for $369.00 four years ago. Last year, the same carved doll (larger size) sold for $699 elsewhere.
