NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Shouzan Shido (Shozan)
SIZE: 17.75" (45cm), weight 3 pounds in box
CONDITION: Few minor dents and scratches. Wood is spotting (darkening) from age. The finish on the head is aging, showing signs of white and on the right side it's bubbling up a bit. There is a crack on the underside of the head as well as on the top. The top one looks like it was partially wood filled.
NOTES: The name of the doll translates to "white crown" or "white figure". Includes original box.
Mr. Shouzan was born in 1932. He started kokeshi crafting in 1959. Multi prize winning artist including the Prime Minister Prize. Known worldwide, he has had multiple exhibits in Japan as well as internationally.
