Modern Creative Kokeshi, Sekiguchi, Flutist #2, 11"
Sold
NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi of a flutist (flautist), some damage
MAKER: Sansaku Sekiguchi
SIZE: 11" (28cm) including her hat.
CONDITION: Several smallish dents around the "shoulder" edge. Several larger dents on the back of the head. Wood age spots (darkening) on the back of the head and "shoulders"
Please note: This doll came in with the head detached and flute broken. Both had been repaired before and came off during transit. The pictures were taken before they were fixed so the face should be a little more centered. A nail was inserted into the peg for support. The base has a large opening so it should support the head if it should come apart again. There was nothing for the glue to hold onto. Should the flute come apart again, you may want to glue it and try to shove it further down so the crack does not show. You may also want to take a touch of black paint or marker pen to the raw wood/glue showing at the crack.
NOTES: Mr. Sekiguchi was born in 1925 and is still busy creating his masterpieces. He is a multi-award winning artist which includes multiple prime minister awards. He is perhaps the most known kokeshi maker worldwide.
Lovely shaped doll. Very Sekiguchi face and bangs - older style. This is not a small doll. She weighs over 2 pounds
