NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi "Innocent"

MAKER: Sadao Kishi

SIZE: 19" (48.2cm)

CONDITION: Varying sized dents. The only ones seen from the front are a tiny one at the top of the kimono sleeve and a little larger one under the chin. Several longer dents on the back of the head. The lips are faded.

NOTES: Mr. Kishi was born in 1932 and has passed. He was a mutli award winning artist. He won top prize, Prime Minister Award at least a couple of times including one for this doll in 1968.

The wheat pattern is carved.

I would consider this a "classic" kokeshi. In the early days of creative kokeshi, prize winning dolls were very popular and more affordable compared to today's winners. It's why they tend to be more readily available.
