Modern Creative Kokeshi, Muhitsu "Bairin" 8-1/8" #73183
Sold
NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Muhitsu Miyajima
SIZE: 8-1/8" (20.9cm)
CONDITION: Flaws are all pretty minor and not noticeable but to be specific, there are two small dents on the right side of her hair (or hat?), few dents on the upper right side of the body and a few small dents on her left side. On the right side at the very top curve of the body are tiny dings that look like flawed wood. They run in the grain and stain did not take there.
NOTES: Name of the doll is Bairin or plum grove. Interesting uneven carved grooves at the top and bottom of the body. Somewhat similar to a chatter technique.
Mr. Miyajima was born in 1929. From 1942, he studied traditional kokeshi under Kichitaro Kobayashi (Yamagata) and in the late 40's, changed to creative. Won many awards including the coveted Prime Minister's prize in 1973.
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Estimated shipping is US$35.00 if she can be packed safely in a bubble envelope. This could be a risk because of her hair. Otherwise, the shipping will be US$53.00. You will be invoiced for the difference between actual cost - less shipping paid.
