NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi w/carved 7 Gods of Fortune (Shichifukujin)
MAKER: Hajime Miyashita
SIZE: 12-3/4" (32.5cm)
CONDITION: Very good with some small dots (age spots). The top of the box is torn and has two split corners.
NOTES: Mr. Miyashita was born in 1940 and has won multiple awards including the prime minister prize in 1977. In 1969, his works were purchased by the Crowned Prince & Princess.
The art work is done by carving and burnt wood technique. It is one of the most detailed artwork I've seen on a kokeshi. Probably hard enough to do on a flat surface - this one is curved.
