Modern Creative Kokeshi, Kuribayashi, 5" #73373
Sold
NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Issetsu Kuribayashi
SIZE: 5" (12.7cm), diameter 3-3/8" (8.7cm)
CONDITION: Few small dings on the head including a 1/8" round one on the right side of the head. On the back bottom of the kimono is a chip of wood missing but it looks to have been there at the time of it's creation. Below that on the bottom edge is a gouge that runs almost 1/2" long. Couple of hairline cracks on the top of the head radiating out from the center of the wood. The natural tendency of wood is to crack from the center out, even more so if the wood wasn't dried properly.
NOTES: The face is carved as chisel marks can be seen. The kimono design has been carved and painted as well.
Mr. Kuribayashi was born in 1924 and started making creative kokeshi about 1955. He has won multiple awards including the prime minister award several times.
International Customers: Postage is estimated at US$24 for first class, no insurance. You will be invoice for the difference between actual cost - less shipping paid.
