NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi pair of Otafuku (Okame) and Hyottoko plus stand
MAKER: Kouson Sato
SIZE: 5-3/4" & 6" (14.6 & 15.5cm), the stand is 8-1/4" x 4-5/8"
CONDITION: Otafuku has a small knot on the top of the head.
Hyottoko has chips in his blue paint and several age spots on the face. He has a light scratch and ding on the front body.
NOTES: Ms. Kouson's kokeshi faces are usually easily recognizable. They are soft and gentle looking. This pair is quite different and is fashioned after two famous Japanese characters, Otafuku (goddess of mirth) & Hyottoko (fire man) They are made in two pieces and looks to be of two different types of wood.
Clever design. Otafuku is normally seen with full cheeks. In order to give that appearance, the center of the face is concave with the nose sticking out. Hyottoko is blowing at a fire and his lips are set to do so.
