NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi pair, stand
MAKER: Kouson Sato
SIZE: 7" & 6-5/8" (18 & 17cm). The diameter of the male is 4-1/2" (11.5cm). The stand is about 9-3/4" x 5-3/8" x 3/4". Weight is 4 lbs, 2.4 oz
CONDITION: Female has a few minors dents and a larger ding above her right eye. The male has a few minor dents on his head with a couple of larger ones on the left side of his face. The wood has darkened nicely with age.
NOTES: Ms. Kouson's kokeshi faces are usually easily recognizable. They are soft and gentle looking. This pair is quite different but is probably her best known and loved dolls. She has been making them for over 50 years and are patented. They are made in two pieces and looks to be of two different types of wood.
Everyone should have a pair or two of these laughing dolls around as they'll make you smile.
