NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi

MAKER: Hideo Ishihara

SIZE: 11.5" (29cm)

CONDITION: Few mostly light dents or scratches including a 3/16" dent on the mid front and a 1/2" on the bottom curve, left side.

NOTES: Mr. Ishihara was born in Tokyo in 1925 and passed in 1999 at the age of 74. He was registered as a traditional Narugo artist. His grandfather, Iwataro Onuma, was the originator of the Naruko traditional kokeshi. Mr. Ishihara was trained in Narugo style but found it too confining and switched to creative shortly after. From 1959 through 1969, he won 60 prizes as a creative artist including the prime minister award

Lovely dark stained doll with hard to see red and black art work on the front.
