Modern Creative Kokeshi, Ishihara, 10-1/4"

Sold
  • Modern Creative Kokeshi, Ishihara, 10-1/4"

NAME: Modern Creative Japanese kokeshi

MAKER: Hideo Ishihara*

SIZE: 10-1/4" (25cm)

CONDITION: Small dent under one of the wood knots on the body.

NOTES: Mr. Ishihara was born in Tokyo in 1925 and passed in 1999 at the age of 74. He was registered as a traditional Narugo artist. His grandfather, Iwataro Onuma, was the originator of the Naruko traditional kokeshi. Mr. Ishihara was trained in Narugo style but found it too confining and switched to creative shortly after. From 1959 through 1969, he won 60 prizes as a creative artist including the prime minister award.

There is no face or decoration. The wood and shape speaks for itself.

There is a similar shaped doll currently selling in Japan, it has a face and the typical black bob hair Ishihara does. Paint, maybe, but it's hard to tell on such a dark doll. The price for that doll is about $1200.00

*The name is on a paper glued to the bottom. I've seen other very similar dolls with Mr. Ishihara's signature so I'm sure this is correct.

Shipping on this doll will be no extra charge to anywhere in the world.
