NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Satoru Iguchi
SIZE: 12" (30cm), diameter at the widest point is 5-1/4" (13.5cm), weight is over 4 pounds.
CONDITION: Two dark streaks on the face, probably wood age spots. Various dents and scratches, mostly small and mostly on the back. An approximate 1" line on the top of the head which may be a hairline crack.
NOTES: Theme is Autumn colors. The design is burnt wood style.
Mr. Iguchi was born 1948 and studied under Master Craftsman, Sansaku Sekiguchi. He is a multi-award winner including the Prime Minister Prize. You can find one of his dolls in the Usaburo Museum and here is an example of another: Iguchi
Mr. Iguchi's dolls are hard to find. He doesn't seem to have been as prolific as other artists.
