Vintage Japanese lacquered bowls and sticks. Not positive what they are but my guess is that they are miniature mochi or rice pounders and are used for children's day display (May 5th).
The bowls measure 2" and the sticks 2-1/4". One side of each stick is flattened so they can sit on top of the bowls. There is a faint stamp on the outside of the bowls. There are a few very small nicks in the edge of one cup and a small round chip in the lacquer on one of the sticks.
These are part of a family collection of folk crafts from the 50's and 60's. The father traveled to all parts of Japan on business and would bring home souvenirs for the family.
