  • Kiyomizu Porcelain Maiko Kokeshi Pair

Vintage Japanese Kiyomizu porcelain Maiko kokeshi pair measuring approximately 3" and 3-1/2" tall. Fashioned after the creative kokeshi of Maiko (Geisha apprentice), these young ladies are wrapped in shawls and have their kimono tied up which exposes their feet in geta (wooden footwear). These are mint (new old stock) in original box.

Kiyomizu-ware (Kiyomizu-yaki) is a term for a style of porcelain made in Kyoto. Dating back hundreds of years, it's always hand painted. The bottom is marked "Shimizu" (area or port).

Probably from the 1950's, there are several different styles listed. They may have dust or dirt but they wipe clean. Most are still wrapped in their original paper, however, the paper is yellowed and fragile with age. All are in their original gift box but the boxes may be soiled or have corners split.
