Kijiyama Traditional Kokeshi w/Deity, 13-1/8"
Sold
NAME: Kijiyama Japanese traditional kokeshi with an image of a deity
MAKER: Haruo Sasaki
SIZE: 13-1/8" (33.5cm)
CONDITION: There are some dents, small and a little larger. Several are on the face - on the left cheek one on the bangs. Little larger one also can be seen on the upper back. Few light scratches as well. There is a dot of white by the mouth and several spots on the left side of the doll which are probably old water spots. The greens have some fading.
NOTES: This doll comes from Yuzawa in the Akita-ken Prefecture where two of the three famous traditional kites of Akita are produced. The picture drawn on this kokeshi is fashioned after a kite called Managu-dako. Managu means eyes and the kite itself is only painted with Japanese Sumi ink.
An especially nice doll as it combines two of the traditional arts forms of Japan.
