  • Kijiyama Traditional Kokeshi, Ogura, 13-1/8"

NAME: Kijiyama traditional kokeshi

MAKER: Kyutaro Ogura

SIZE: 13-1/8" (33.3cm)

CONDITION: Three light dents on the left side of the hair and a couple of dents on the lower back. Three small dark spots above the obi where the wood feels slightly "flattened" and the varnish is missing. The wood has a crack (wood flaw) on the bottom left side and goes up on the doll, both ends, about 3/4". The wood is not perfect nor is the lathing work (lathe lines) but rarely is perfection seen in any of his dolls. I don't think it was a big concern. I also read but can't confirm, that in his later years, Mr. Ogura's family would make the dolls and he would do art/painting.

NOTES: Mr. Ogura passed in 1998 at the age of 91. He was a very famous and popular artist. His dolls are still very much collected and prized.

Dated on the bottom October 30, 1973. Made from the lovely zelkova (keyaki) wood.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Shipping on this doll will cost up to US$32 or US$17 over the automatic charge of $15.00 for U.S. addresses. Please contact us with intent to buy so that it can be packed, weighed and the extra shipping charges added to the doll BEFORE the purchase is made.
