Keshi Ningyo, Gion Matsuri, Small (#31062)
$95.00
Quantity Available: 1
Inventory Number: 31062
NAME: Keshi Ningyo of the Gion Matsuri (festival) parade in Kyoto, small version, NO LID.
SIZE: The dolls are around 5/8" tall (some variations).
The box measures 6-5/8" long x 2-1/2" deep.
CONDITION: Early to mid age set (50's-60's)*, 12 figures and a float (giant cart). Figures are complete and in good condition. NO LID or decorated stick that sits atop the float.
Very rare Gion. Short style but have never seen a long set. Except for another I have listed, rarely are lids seen with these. I'm not sure if they were issued as standard sized lids would not fit because of the height of the float. Most are also missing the decorated (pole) that sits atop the cart.
*This one may be a very early set. Except for the hats, these appear to have been painted, glazed and fired. This would be similar to the original family business (porcelains).
NOTES: The Gion Matsuri is held in July. This scene belongs to the Yamaboko Junko or procession of floats. The type of float is called "hoko", which are enormous in real life and are pulled by people.
