NAME: Keshi Ningyo of a Daimyo Gyoretsu
SIZE: The dolls are around 5/8" tall (some variations).
The box measures 13-3/4" long x 1-3/4" deep x 1-15/16" high.
CONDITION: Recent set (90's to current), 24 figures including one on a horse, an extra horse and palanquin. Complete.
There are cracks in the 2nd row figure.
NOTES: During the Edo period, a law, called "Sankin Kotai" was created to help control the Daimyo (Feudal Lords). The law required every Daimyo to spend every other year in Edo (Tokyo). The travelling procession of the Daimyo household often included over 200 samurai (soldiers) and was called Daimyo Gyoretsu. With hundreds of Daimyo coming or going every year, these processions were common occurrences.
