Kashigata, Japanese Sweet Cake Mold w/Cover, Fish

NAME: Japanese carved wood kashigata or sweet/sugar cake mold, 2 piece, fish design (blow fish?)

SIZE: 4" (10.3cm) x 7-1/8" (18.2cm) x 1-5/8 (4.2cm) deep

CONDITION: The top edge of the mold has some splinters of wood missing and is rough where they broke off. Top edge of the lid also has a small piece of wood missing. The lid is slightly warped. Less than normal wear and tear.

NOTES: These were classified as "antique" where it was purchased. It came from a long established sweet shop, now closed.

The design is a fish. May be a blow fish. Very detailed.

The design on the kashigata is hand carved. There is usually a lot of detail and should be considered miniature works of art. As I understand, there are very few craftsmen making these today.
