Unusual vintage Japanese folk craft of kappa figures.
A Kappa is a Japanese mythical creature that lives in water (river or water imp). They have a hollow cavity atop their heads holding water that gives them their strength. It is said that should you come across a mischievous one, bow deeply as the Kappa will return the bow, spilling the fluid and become so weak that it must return to the water.
Two adult kappa are carrying a palanquin. Flipping the palanquin cover reveals a small kappa inside. The height is about 4". The stand is a slice of wood. All three heads are made of nut shells.
There is a crack in the stand, otherwise, it's mint in box.
