NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a burnt wood puppy, representing the "Year of the Dog".

SIZE: Height 3-5/16" (8.5cm) high, 5-3/4" (14.8cm) at the longest point

CONDITION: There is a natural hairline crack in the wood which can be seen on the back.

NOTES: Very nice and well done piece. The wood may be cedar. The edges on the back are beveled.

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
