NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a tiger, representing the "Year of the Tiger".

SIZE: Height approx 3-1/2" (9cm) to the top point, 5-7/8" (14.9cm) at the longest point.

CONDITION: Few light scratches and dings. Little blurring of the paint.

NOTES: The second picture is the back of the board that has been sold.

Ema boards are either hand painted, silk screened or some other process used for the art work. This board is definitely hand painted.

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
