NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a boar, represent the "Year of the Boar".
SIZE: Height 4-5/8" (11.9cm) to the top point, 3-3/8" (13.7cm) long
CONDITION: Older board with related issues. The wood has darkened, some wear on the edges, the white paint of the boar is reverting back to powder form and rubbing off in spots. There is something that was once green, now faded, in the background. The cord has also faded and some color has come off on the board.
NOTES: An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now. Ema boards which have been offered are not resold.
