NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with an ox, represently the "Year of the Ox".
SIZE: Height 3-5/8" (9.3cm) to the top point, 5-1/4" (13.5cm) long
CONDITION: Board has darkened with age. Few light scratches and dings. Cord is faded.
NOTES: An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
