NAME: Japanese ittobori carving of a tiger, representing zodiac year of the tiger (current year), in wood box.

MAKER: Burnt wood engraving and carved characters on the bottom. Stamp on the box

SIZE: 3" (7.5cm) tall, 2-3/4" (7.2cm) long

CONDITION: Good

NOTES: Briefly, Ittobori is a carving technique. The name literally means "one chisel cut". You see the angles made by the chisel, they are not smoothed out. An art form that goes back hundreds of years, the most popular subjects are Noh and the 12 Animals of the Zodiac.

Year of the Tiger include the years 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974 1962, 1950, 1938 & 1926.
