Antique Kashigata, Japanese Sweet Cake Mold, Bamboo

NAME: Antique Japanese carved wood kashigata or sweet/sugar cake mold, 2 piece, bamboo design

SIZE: 3-3/4" (9.7cm) x 6-3/8" (16.3cm) x 1-3/8 (3.5cm) deep

CONDITION: The wood has frayed a bit on the top and bottom edges of the design piece. May be bug or rodent damage. One piece is ever so slightly warped (small gap when placed together). There are also a few dents, scratches - normal wear and tear.

NOTES: These were labelled "antique" where I purchased them, probably from 1900 to 1950. The design has a bamboo branch with many leaves and a new shoot sprouting.

The design on the kashigata is hand carved. There is usually a lot of detail and should be considered miniature works of art. As I understand, there are very few craftsmen making these today.
