Antique Japanese Doll, First Emperor Jimmu

NAME: Antique Japanese Costume Doll of the First Emperor Jimmu.

Accessories include real metal armor, an animal pelt, sword, arrows, quiver, golden bird, stand, and original wood crate.

AGE: Meiji (1868-1912).

SIZE: Doll is 14-7/8" (36.5cm) tall. The stand measures 10-7/8" x 8-1/2" x 3-3/8" (27.6cm x 21cm x 8.5cm)

Crate is 22" x 11-3/4" x 9-7/8" (25.8cm x 29.7cm x 25cm)

CONDITION: The doll is in very good condition. Must have been stored well as, it's in a very clean state for it's age. No cracks or chips can be seen in the finish but there is a crack around both ankles.

The armor is rusting all around the top. One of the "o" rings attached to the arrow quiver is missing. The arrows in the quiver have no feathers. Two pegs are used to hold the doll in the stand. One is broken but the doll will still stand. An attempt was made to glue it but there is not enough material for the glue to hold. Better to change it for more security.

The bird may be made of paper mache and is missing a wing tip on the right side.

The original wood box has a crack and chip of wood missing on the top edge of the lid.

NOTES: Traditional gofun finish. Odd that the hand is so close to the face. It may not have been that way originally. Time or the way it was stored may have warped it.
