Antique Japanese Costume Doll, Maiko

  • Antique Japanese Costume Doll, Maiko Antique Japanese Costume Doll, Maiko

NAME: Antique Japanese Costume Doll of a Maiko (Geisha apprentice).

AGE: Taisho (1912-1926)

SIZE: 15-1/8" (38.5cm) not including the stand. The stand measures 8-7/8" x 7-5/8"

CONDITION: Oval indentation on the forehead about 1/4" long. There is no damage to the finish. This is an odd flaw. How could something hit so hard to make this dent and not break or crack the fragile gofun finish, the nose or do some other damage? My guess is, it may have been there at the time of manufacture but hard to say for sure. It's not too noticeable unless the light hits it a certain way.

NOTES: Absolutely beautiful doll. There is hand embroidering and gold thread couching on her silk kimono - the sleeves (even some on the underside), lapels, shoulders, all around the bottom and on her underkimono. Her hands/fingers are gracefully poised. The stand is made from a lovely grained dark wood.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Shipping on this doll, if sent priority, fully insured, will cost up to US$35.00 additional ($60 less the no extra charge US cost to ship of $25). You can choose 1st class for around $20.00 less, but it is not covered under insurance and it will be YOUR RISK. Please contact us with intent to buy so that she can be packed, weighed and the extra shipping charges added to the doll BEFORE the purchase is made.
