NAME: Yajiro traditional Japanese toy clown with top
MAKER: Tsuta family, Yajiro kokeshi & toy craftsmen
SIZE: About 10-3/4" (27.5cm) not including the top, 5-3/4 (14.8cm) wide
CONDITION: Some light soiling and light fading of color on the hat, arms and legs. An arm and a leg needs to be glued as they are loose.
The stick and the top were missing. Yajiro craftsman Hideyuki Sato of Kijidokoro-Sato graciously agreed to make another based on a picture of another like it.
NOTES: Just as with kokeshi, this trade is handed down from generation to generation. The Tsuta family consists of the father Sakuzou (d1957 @ 66), son/brother Mamoru (d2009 @ 81) and Fumio, who is currently in production.
