Antique Japanese original woodblock print by Gekko Ogata (1859-1920). This print is from the series "Gekko's sketches", Sept, 1896 and was probably part of a book. The print itself measures 5" x 7" and depicts sea life, koi, tai (red snapper) and squid. Artelino has an interesting short biography on Gekko Ogata. This was purchased at a Japanese woodblock print gallery. The matte and back, were probably used simply to support and keep the print flat and undamaged. Doubtful that they are acid free, changing them would be recommended before framing. There are some light spots that show up better in the photo than on the print itself, otherwise, in good condition for the age.
