  • Woodblock Print by Eikyu

Antique Japanese original woodblock print by Eikyu (Eikyu Matsuoka 1881-1938), probably dating to 1920-30's. It is a picture of "Silk Farming". It depicts a busy workroom, with a woman working at a table, 2 women working on a project on the floor and a gentleman by a large sack. The women are all wearing kimono. The print itself measures 9-1/2" x 14. There is a light crease an inch from the right side with a small inverted v shape piece missing at the very bottom of this crease, otherwise, in good condition for it's age. It may have been part of a book once and the crease was the page edge. There are also some Japanese characters printed on the reverse. The colors are still sharp and vivid. This was purchased at a Japanese woodblock print gallery. The matte and back, were probably used simply to support and keep the print flat and undamaged. Doubtful that they are acid free, changing them would be recommended before framing.
