Quantity Available: 1
Inventory Number: 11006
NAME: Vintage Japanese Kintaro doll wrestling a bear, original box with no lid
AGE: 1930's
SIZE: Doll is 6-1/4" (15.8cm) tall without his hat. The stand measures 9-13/16" x 4-7/8" x 1-1/2" (24.8cm x 12.4cm x 3.8cm)
CONDITION: A lot of small problems, mostly caused by age. Kintaro has chipping around his eyes. The spots can be painted to be less noticeable. (Chips are easier to fix than cracks). His right hand also has a small chip and his costume is unraveling. The bear has a little paint wear and flaking. The bark is flaking off the tree and at some time, someone changed the wire attached to the pine needle clumps to a copper wire. There is no lid to the original wood box.
NOTES: There are many legends and stories about Kintaro but in brief, he was a child of superhuman strength, was raised in the mountains by an ogress, was friends with the animals and is a symbol of a hero, brave and strong. As a child, wearing only a bib, he would sumo wrestle with bears as this diorama shows.
