Traditional(?) Kokeshi 12", Black

Traditional style kokeshi measuring 12" tall with a diameter at the base of 2-1/2".

I had asked my friends at Kijidokoro-Sato (kokeshi makers) to help identify this doll. They told me it was signed by Yasuo Maehara and it may be considered a sousaku (creative) kokeshi as the artist is not registered as a traditional kokeshi craftsman. He may have been trained in the Togatta, Akiu (a school of Togatta) or Sakunami style. It isn't easy to identify some dolls.

In excellent condition except for one tiny nick on "edge" of the torso.
