Vintage Japanese clay Tosa or fighting dog. Also known as a sumo dog as they sumo wrestle rather than maul or kill. Growling or biting disqualifies the dog. This is the winner of a match. He proudly wears his prize, a decorated apron with an elaborately braided rope. He measures about 5-1/2" long x 4-1/4" high and is in excellent condition.

This is part of a family collection of folk crafts from the 50's and 60's. The father traveled to all parts of Japan on business and would bring home souvenirs for the family.
