NAME: Togatta traditional Japanese kokeshi pair

CONDITION: Older dolls with age related problems. There are assorted dents on both dolls. The only one of note on the red doll is a deeper than normal dent on the back of the head. The black doll has two very large curved dents by and under the left eye. Keep in mind, the bigger the doll, the harder it falls.

Both dolls have a crack on their head. It is the nature of wood to crack from it's center out. The red doll's center is the middle of the head and runs to the end of the top curve of the head on both sides. The center of the wood on the black doll is slightly off center of the middle of the head. This crack runs down a little over halfway on both sides. Wood can crack from being stored in a hot, dry environment for a long period of time, which is probably the case with these dolls.

NOTES: The wood has darkened nicely over the years. There is additional darkening at the top and bottom of the heads and at the necks.

I was unaware of the cracks or the large dents until they arrived. Many flaws can only be seen when the light hits a certain way and may not be readily apparent in photographs. I also think flaws are of lesser importance in Japan.

The combined weight is about 7-1/2 pounds with a shipping weight at 9 pounds. They will be mailed to U.S. addresses via parcel post as a hefty surcharge for oversized packages kicks in. You are always welcomed to pay the difference and upgrade to priority.
