Sedge Hat & Scenery Japanese Vintage Kokeshi

Vintage Japanese wooden kokeshi with a small scene on the upper front half and sedge hat on the head. A sedge hat is an old time hat made of plant fibers, similar to a straw hat. The doll measures about 4" tall. The bottom half was simply stained and the lovely grain becomes the design. There are some tiny chips on the edge of the hat and a small spot in front that may be a water spot. A little wood oil helps hydrate the wood and makes the spot disappear for a while. There is a small section at the back base of the doll where the stain did not take.
