Rooster & Straw Paper Mache Japanese Folkcraft

Paper mache Japanese folk craft of a rooster (zodiac) in a highly decorated scene. He sits in the middle of a rope made of straw and straw stalks are bundled together behind with red and white cord and paper mache shapes decorating the front. All are afixed to a red felt cloth. Overall height is 8-1/2", the rooster is 4" and the felt measures 3-3/4" square. There's probably some significance to each of the items, but am unaware of what it is. This is inventory from a closed folkcraft store in Japan. It is new old stock. The rooster shows a little discoloring from age, otherwise, in mint condition. Comes with a rather large gift box but because of long term storage, has some soiling and dents.
