Very rare and lovely Japanese lacquered plastic box set in the shape of an Ouchi doll Empress.

The famous Ouchi lacquerware comes from Yamaguchi city and dates back hundreds of years. The most familiar of the Ouchi products is the Emperor & Empress doll set. Beautiful lacquered roundish shape dolls with long thin eyes and pursed lips sitting on a lacquered stand and usually comes in a fitted kiri wood box.

This box set has the fine lacquered finish and was quite surprised to find it made of plastic. She measures about 3-1/2" tall with a diameter of 4". The top piece actually screws onto the bottom piece. It is in excellent condition but for a few small scratches on the back.
