NAME: Narugo Japanese traditional kokeshi

MAKER: Hideo Ishihara* SIZE: 11.75" (30cm), weight, 2 pounds

CONDITION: Good condition with no apparent problems.

NOTES: This IS the famous modern creative artist Hideo Ishihara. He was registered as a traditional Narugo artist. His grandfather, Iwataro Onuma, was the originator of the Naruko traditional kokeshi. Mr. Ishihara was trained in Narugo style but found it too confining and switched to creative shortly after. From 1959 through 1969, he won 60 prizes as a creative artist including the prime minister award. He passed in 1999 at the age of 74.

I don't believe he made Narugo but for a couple of years in the 50's.
