Nara Ittobori Monkey & Crab Diorama, Box, Old
Sold
NAME: Japanese Nara ittobori carved wood diorama of the fairy tale "The Battle of the Monkey and the Crab".
MAKER: Signed and stamped on the inside of the box lid
SIZE: Figures measure 1-3/8" tall, stand 2-1/2 x 3-9/16" and overall height 3-1/16"
CONDITION: A little bit of paint chipping where the crab came loose from the stand. This probably caused a little chipping on the top of the head from banging around during transit. The crab wasn't secured in the picture and was not quite set in the right place. It has been glued and looks fine now.
NOTES: The stand has green felt glued to the top.
I believe this item is prewar, early Showa, 1930/1940's. It is from Nara and is carved in the ittobori style. Very rare!
