NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi, original box.

MAKER: Yoshio Otani, sign board included

SIZE: 12-1/8", diameter at largest point 5-1/4", weight w/box is 5 lb, 6oz

CONDITION: There is one 5/8" light dent or scratch on her hair in front and a few tiny spots on the edges where there is no paint. Could be chips, could have been missed spots or bubbles when she was made. Other imperfections are chisel marks, including several along the bottom of her hair. Box is slightly battered.

NOTES: Mr. Otani is a prime minister award winner. He used a lovely wood for her head. There is a lot of nice design detailing which is burnt wood style. She has an extra curve at the neck which I'm guessing is hard to do on a doll this size as you rarely see it. The obi has carved out ovals. Many of these dolls have their sleeves covering their front so a full obi showing is not the norm.
