Modern Creative Kokeshi, Yoshida, 9-3/8"
Sold
NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Takashi Yoshida
SIZE: 9-3/8" (24cm), diameter 5-3/4" (14.5cm), weight is over 4 pounds
CONDITION: A dent on her left cheek as can be seen in the pictures. An area on the left side of her head has multiple dents, two are very large. There are several smaller dents or scratches and dings elsewhere on her head, a few a which have removed the paint. This is a very large and heavy doll. The bigger they are, the harder they fall and the damage tends to be greater.
NOTES: Mr. Yoshida was born in 1948 and has passed much too soon in 2007. He started his career in kokeshi crafting "late" in life in 1978 under Insosuke Kobayashi. He won multiple awards including the Prime Minister prize and his dolls are hard to find.
I believe this doll's translated title is "Flower Mist". Incredible detail on this doll. Part of the design is carved. The flower outlines are made up of tiny dots using the burnt wood style. Each tiny dot is filled in with gold paint. Imagine the time it must have taken to do all this!
